This chimneypiece is a replica of a
mantel designed for the Bank of
England, one of Sir John Soane’s most
prestigous projects. The distinctive
proportions and use of the Greek-key
motif evince the stamp of his work.

robustly carved acanthus corbels and

mantelpiece in Carrara marble with
stepped frieze elaborated with
guilloche carving detail, stop fluted
tablet, and rose swag. Fluted console
jambs exhibit ribbon and rose carving
details and support corner blocks with
concentric rosettes.

Mid-18th century chimneypiece of
architectural form, with Convent Siena
pilasters and frieze panels, the latter
